Chepkwony Commissions KDIC-Funded Laboratory at Arap Moi Junior Secondary School.

The Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Hellen Chepkwony, has officially commissioned the new KDIC fully- equipped modern science laboratory at Arap Moi Junior Secondary School, Kajiado County. The event marks a significant boost to education in Kajiado County, particularly science-related lessons.

Speaking during the commissioning of the laboratory, Mrs. Chepkwony emphasized the importance of science education in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. "In today’s rapidly changing world, the significance of science subjects cannot be overstated," she remarked.

The new laboratory constructed by the Ministry of Education, is expected to provide students with invaluable hands-on experience, enabling them to conduct experiments, engage in research, and explore scientific concepts in a practical manner. Mrs. Chepkwony who was accompanied by a host of KDIC staff, observed that the facility would inspire students to pursue careers in science and innovation, thereby empowering them to tackle future challenges.

"This initiative is not merely corporate responsibility; it is a pledge to create opportunities for a better tomorrow," she stated. The KDIC's investment in the laboratory aligns with the government's agenda to uplift vulnerable and needy communities across the country.

Highlighting the corporation’s commitment to education and environmental sustainability, Mrs. Chepkwony noted that as part of its CSR program, KDIC has continued to support the needy in society aimed at transforming lives.

Underscoring KDIC’s engagement in health and climate change the CEO said: "Together, we can create more opportunities for our students, ensuring they not only excel academically but also grow as responsible citizens”.

Present were Dr. Martin Cheruiyot, Director of Education in Kajiado County, the School’s Head Teacher Roda Kipkore alongside other members of the larger community of Arap Moi Junior Secondary School.

On her part, Kipkore lauded the Corporation for supporting the school, noting that the project will propel the students towards academic excellence.

Last year, KDIC donated a number of traffic safety equipment to the school, aimed at reducing road accidents in the area especially among school-going children. The Corporation in conjunction with the National Transport and Road Safety Authority (NTSA) identified Arap Moi Primary as a needy institution, following numerous documented road safety-related challenges encountered by school-going children at Nkoroi, considered to be a blackspot. The notorious area lacks proper and adequate road safety signs to facilitate the pupils’ safety.

The school has a population of 3,000 pupils with majority coming from disadvantaged families.
