KDIC Hosts Botswana Delegation on Deposit Insurance
The Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (KDIC) CEO Mrs. Hellen Chepkwony has today received a visiting delegation from Bank of Botswana which is in the country for a benchmarking visit on Deposit Insurance.
In her address to the team led by Director Mr. Goememang Baatlholeng, Mrs. Chepkwony appreciated the visit saying it affirmed the country’s commitment to establish a functional and effective Deposit Insurance.
She underscored the significance of instituting a robust legal framework for emerging Deposit Insurers, noting that it was the surest way of getting it right from the onset.
She added that: “It is important to have a robust legal framework in order to support the DIS in all deposit insurance activities as well as the focus on the creation of a resilient deposit insurance fund, which is key in fostering confidence in the banking system”.
At the same time Mrs Chepkwony affirmed KDIC’s commitment towards future engagements including offering technical support as appropriate.
Mr. Baatlholeng expressed the team’s gratitude for the Corporation’s support towards establishing a DIS in Botswana.
The team will be in the country for the next three days where they will be sensitized on Deposit Insurance and its requirements.
Present during the opening meeting was the entire Senior Management of KDIC.
The Botswana delegation is the latest team to visit Kenya-seen as the anchor state on DIS- for benchmarking.
