Major boost for patient care as KDIC commissions medical equipment at the Spinal Injury

Patient care at the Spinal Injury Hospital got a major boost, after the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation donated an assortment of state-of-the-art medical equipment in support of the facility’s operations.

The equipment donated courtesy of the KDIC CSR program, included patient monitors and orthopedic beds.

Speaking at the Spinal Injury Hospital during the commissioning of the KDIC-funded medical equipment, Chief Administrative Secretary for Health Dr. Rashid Aman, commended the Corporation for the gesture saying “the equipment will go a long way in improving the spinal care and reducing the hospital stay for patients here.”

Dr. Aman added that such contribution had complemented the government’s effort of ensuring there was accessible and affordable healthcare for all. “Indeed it is through such deliberate and collaborative partnerships among public institutions and even private, that we have been able to record great milestones under the pillar of Universal Health Coverage adopted by the Government,” he observed.

While affirming KDIC’s commitment in supporting the Government’s agenda towards  U.H.C, Corporation   Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mohamud Mohamud, said that KDIC had deliberately chosen to invest in CSR projects within the health spaces as part of its contribution towards the physical, mental and financial wellbeing of depositors in the country. “The prosperity of our people, directly ties to the strategic goals of KDIC and this ripple effect, is what we are hoping to catalyze as we sponsor both maternal and universal healthcare. The economic productivity of the Kenyan people directly and indirectly, down the pipeline becomes a deposit that contributes to our insurance scheme,” said Mr. Mohamud.

Dr. Aman and Mr. Mohamud are treated to a tour of the facility conducted by Dr. Otieno shortly before the ceremony.

The Corporation is implementing a similar project  at the Wenje Dispensary in Tana River county, that has significantly contributed to maternal health and safe deliveries by expectant women.

The event at the Spinal Injury Hospital was attended by the KDIC’s Management, the facility’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Soren Otieno and select staff from both institutions.

The donated equipment were installed at the facility’s theatre as well as a designated ward and remain available to needy patients visiting the Spinal Injury Hospital.

The facility is a level 6 government hospital and is the only one in East and Central Africa dealing with the spine.

Having started as a home in 1968, The facility has since undergone renovations in line with its mandate. The hospital mainly rehabilitates patients who sustain injuries through road accidents or construction sites.
