KDIC Chairperson Leads Kenyan Delegation to IADI-ARC Conference, Uganda.
The Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) Board of Directors Chairperson Mrs. Hannah Muriithi, EBS, has led a Kenyan delegation to this year’s IADI-Africa Regional Committee (ARC) Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Uganda.
The delegation, which included KDIC Director Joseph Ngetich and CEO Hellen Chepkwony, played a pivotal role in the discussions centered around the theme "Ensuring Financial Stability and Protecting Depositors in a Dynamic Financial Ecosystem." The conference, an annual event that gathers deposit insurers from across the region, serves as a platform for formal engagement and in-depth deliberations on key issues affecting the sector.
Mrs. Muriithi said: “This event was quite insightful. We have drawn vital lessons that may inform our policy direction going forward. As the KDIC Board, we will be quite deliberate in making strategic decisions aimed at enhancing the Corporation’s mandate on issues Crisis Management”.
In her presentation, CEO Hellen Chepkwony highlighted the critical aspects of funding deposit insurance systems. She outlined the key elements and emerging trends in the industry, with a particular focus on the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations. Her insights were well-received by attendees, who recognized the growing significance of ESG factors in the financial sector.
"The evolving financial landscape demands that we not only focus on financial stability but also integrate sustainable practices that benefit our environment and society at large," Chepkwony emphasized during her presentation.
This year's event hosted by Deposit Protection Fund- Uganda (DPF-Uganda), provided a valuable opportunity for participants to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and explore innovative solutions to enhance financial stability and depositor protection.
As the conference concluded, the KDIC delegation reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to advancing deposit insurance frameworks that are robust, adaptive, and aligned with global best practices. The discussions held at the conference are expected to influence policy directions and operational strategies within the region's deposit insurance systems.
The IADI-ARC, currently Chaired by Dr. Julia Oyet, who also doubles up as the Chief Executive Officer of DPF-Uganda Chief Executive Officer, was established and formed under the auspices of IADI in 2002. The ARC currently has 13 members and 6 Associate Members.
